No doubt you’ve been wondering, because it’s the question that everyone asks us: why do you call yourselves "Gagadu"?
And the answer needs a little prior explanation.
Gagadu is the name of a language and the aboriginal people who speak it in northern Australia. The Gagadu have lived for thousands of years in this area, also known as the “Kakadu” territory, near the town of Darwin. It is a beautiful and wild region made popular by the movie Crocodile Dundee.
And for more than 25,000 years, theGagadu have been painting the things they saw and shared their existence with:trees, waterfalls, turtles, crocodiles, kangaroos, fishand the Gagaduthemselves.
Painting for the Gagadu is an actthat allows people to be in contact with nature, with life and with the godswho created it (Warramurrungunyi, Marrawuti, Ginga and Almuy). It is a way ofshowing them respect, because according to Gagadu beliefs, their gods are integratedinto nature as elements of the landscape.
Like the ancient Gagadu, we decorateelements of our day-to-day lives to reflect our way of being and to establishlinks with our environment, and we transmit this through our boards.
Welcome to Gagadu! :)
